The CMT has been used in hospitals with patient epilepsy units to test memory for failures prior to and following temporal lobectomies for intractable epilepsy.
It has been used in operating theaters to assess memory performance in awake patients while they were having portions of their brain removed surgically. This is called Awake Intraoperative Monitoring.
The test has been used in senior independent living centers to test for memory competence.
The CMT has been used in hospital settings to test for normal pressure hydrocephalus.
It has also been used to test in hospital and clinical settings for early onset of senile dementia and for early onset of dementia, Alzheimer's type.
Now it may be used in home settings to test for mild to severe memory disturbances.
